The ACD award recipients for each school were selected by a vote of faculty members who are fellows of the ACD.
Michael J. Stout, DDS Class of 2017, won the Dugoni School's Outstanding Student Leader Award, which recognized his academic achievement and leadership excellence. Stout has provided significant leadership during his time at dental school and currently serves as the Associated Student Body president. After graduation he will transfer to a one-year AEGD residency at the Dugoni School's Union City Dental Care Center. Prior to dental school, he was a network administrator, systems administrator, wireless Internet installer, application support manager and certified computer technician for a variety of companies.
The Distinguished Faculty Award for the Dugoni School was given to Dr. Debra Woo '86. Along the way, she was involved in the Dugoni School's Alumni Association, eventually serving as its president. In 2014, Dr. Woo was appointed by Governor Brown to the Dental Board of California where she served as Chair of the Examination committee and the Enforcement and Licensure Committees. She was recognized by the Governor and the Legislative Women's Caucus for Leadership in Public Service and was elected Secretary of the Dental Board. She was recently appointed to the CDA Government Affairs Committee and also continues in her role as Examiner for the Western Regional Examination Board. At the Dugoni School, Dr. Woo is a clinical instructor in the Department of Preventive and Restorative Dentistry. She is active on the Dental Faculty Council and was recently elected to serve on the Ethics and Faculty Development Oversight Committee. At the start of this year, she enthusiastically answered the Dean's call to develop and lead the Dean's Speaker Series, which aims to increase the knowledge of faculty, staff and students so they can continue to be change agents and leaders in oral health education. In addition to being a fellow of ACD, Dr. Woo is a member of the International College of Dentists, Pierre Fauchard Academy and the Academy of Dentistry International.
