The Northern California Section of the American College of Dentists (ACD) recognized outstanding dental students, educators and professionals during a dinner held at The Olympic Club's Lakeside Clubhouse on Sunday, May 15. University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry and University of California, San Francisco School of Dentistry honored their selections for the Outstanding Student Leader Award and Distinguished Faculty Award. The ACD award recipients for each school were selected by a vote of faculty members who are fellows of the ACD.
Rosemary Tran, DDS Class of 2016, won the Outstanding Student Leader Award, which recognized her academic achievement and leadership excellence. Tran has served as a student delegate to the California Dental Association's (CDA) House of Delegates and as a former president of the school's American Student Dental Association (ASDA) chapter. She also served as Northern Community Outreach Leader for ASDA District 11 and has been involved in CDA Cares outreach events and numerous other projects serving the community. She is a member of many student clubs and organizations and is known for her strong patient skills.
The Distinguished Faculty award was given to Dr. Natasha Lee '00. She is a part-time faculty member who serves as the course director of the Dugoni School's practice management course. Dr. Lee has made many leadership contributions to the profession through her involvement in organized dentistry. She currently serves as vice president of the California Dental Association, and also has been involved in many leadership and volunteer roles with the American Dental Association, San Francisco Dental Society, Dugoni School Alumni Association and other groups.
Additionally, Lynn G. Beck, PhD, was honored with the Dr. Joseph Krejewski Award of Merit. Beck is a professor and past dean of the Benerd School of Education at University of the Pacific. She participates in the Master's degree program for dental health educators at the Dugoni School, held in partnership with the Academy of Academic Leadership. Her research and teaching focuses on ethical leadership, educational reform and the preparation of educational leaders. The Award of Merit recognizes a non-dentist whose outstanding activities have contributed to the advancement of the dental profession and enhanced the image of dentistry.
Founded in 1920, the ACD is the oldest major honorary organization for dentists with a mission to advance excellence, ethics, professionalism and leadership in dentistry. ACD members have exemplified excellence through outstanding leadership and exceptional contributions to dentistry and society. Membership is by invitation only and currently includes more than 7,400 active and retired fellows.
Dugoni School alumnus and adjunct faculty member Dr. Ned Nix '95 currently serves as chair on the ACD Northern California Section board of directors. Numbers other Dugoni School alumni and faculty members are also involved on the board.
