Implant Options for Edentulous Patients

The traditional acrylic denture is no longer the only treatment option for patients who have lost all their natural teeth. There are now a variety of effective implant techniques for edentulous patients ranging from simple to complex. The course will review all of the accepted implant options.

You Will Learn

  • How narrow diameter implants are used for denture retention
  • The 2-implant and 4-implant overdenture systems
  • How hybrid prostheses are supported by multiple implants
  • "Guided" surgery and immediate loading prosthetics

At the conclusion of this program, participants will understand:

  • The limitations of conventional dentures
  • The principles of prosthesis retention and support by implants
  • How to use straight forward case selection principles to determine appropriate
  • implant options for patients
  • How to select among a basic menu of attachments
  • The specifics of implant informed consent
  • The parameters of acceptable implant prosthodontic results and typical implant problems
  • How to prescribe appropriate follow-up care for implant patients

A live-patient demonstration will involve surgical placement of mini implants and immediate retrofit of the patient's denture.

By the end of the program, participants should feel confident in providing basic implant services for denture patients.
