Creating Endodontic Excellence with Clifford J. Ruddle, DDS

8:30 am–noon

Predictably successful endodontic practice is dependent on shaping canals, cleaning root canal systems and three-dimensional obturation. Evidence-driven techniques will be presented to demonstrate how to carefully access, skillfully negotiate, and safely shape anatomically difficult canals. Dr. Ruddle will show new, innovative methods to enhance debridement, smear layer management, and biofilm disruption. The advantage of warm gutta percha filling techniques will be illustrated in detail.

At the conclusion of this segment of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Utilize "microsonic" techniques to finish the access preparation
  • Secure a predictable glide path for shaping files to follow
  • Shape canals with generally one file utilizing a new method
  • Clean root canal systems
  • Fill root canal systems

New Laboratory Methods to Enhance the Clinical Practice of Endodontics with Ove A. Peters, DMD, MS, PhD

1:30 pm – 3:00 pm

Endodontic success depends mainly on the ability to eradicate microorganisms and prevent recontamination. Over the last decade, new technologies have been introduced to endodontic research, such as micro-computed tomography (Micro-CT) and confocal microscopy.

Micro-CT allows a very detailed illustration of root and root canal anatomy. Moreover, canal dimensions, as depicted, are metrically accurate and can therefore be compared before and after canal preparation.

Confocal microscopy is a key technology for the visualization of specimens to understand bacterial biofilms. This creates a very powerful method to investigate the efficacy of various clinical root canal cleaning procedures.

This lecture will demonstrate how such laboratory techniques will enhance endodontic practice in the future.

At the conclusion of this segment of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the latest science that will direct our future treatments in endodontics
  • Critically evaluate design paradigms in endodontic shaping technologies

Endodontics: Exciting Technology, Hidden Pitfalls with Alan H. Gluskin, DDS

3:30 pm – 5:00 pm

While newer technologies in shaping and obturation of root canal systems have greatly increased the quality of care possible for the clinician who practices endodontics, there are increasingly higher standards of understanding required in usage and performance of many new systems.

Dr. Gluskin will review the most significant advances in endodontic imaging, instrumentation and obturation technology as well as the increasing numbers of mishaps that have found their way into the courtroom. He will review the strategies and consensus for various nickel-titanium rotary systems and the outcome of overinstrumentation and other shaping mishaps in roots with varying anatomy. He will discuss the structural weakening that occurs after shaping of root systems and the evidence for the most practical methods to preserve strength and integrity. Additionally, the consequence of overfill accidents will be discussed as well as recommendations for prevention of overfill and strategies for obturation control with excellent outcomes.

At the conclusion of this segment of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the current evidence for "best practices" in endodontics
  • Recognize the balance between the risks and benefits of new technology
  • Be familiar with prognosis and current methods for repairing injuries and mishaps that can result from endodontic therapy

The Art of Endodontics: System-Based Endodontics with the New GT Series X Files with L. Stephen Buchanan, DDS

8:30 am – Noon

Conventional endodontic treatment has undergone dramatic change in the last decade. The excitement in dentistry over these amazing technical advances is palpable, yet belies the greater importance of basic procedural factors in achieving predictable endodontic success. This lecture will describe and show critical concepts and technique fundamentals, as well as state-of-the-art advancements in instruments, materials, and technique nuance.

Upon completion of this presentation, the attending clinician will have a greater understanding of the following:

  • Accessing outline forms that conserve the most tooth structure
  • Negotiating techniques for consistently reaching a canal terminus
  • Using apex locators to save time and increase the accuracy of length determination
  • The safe and efficient use of nickel-titanium files:
    • When to use hand vs. handpiece-driven instruments
  • The importance of lubricants, irrigants and chelating agents
  • 3D-centered compaction obturation techniques including:
    • The continuous wave of condensation technique
    • Carrier-based obturation
  • Backfilling with an extruder gun

Influencing Optimum Endodontic Performance: "Are You Ready to Implement Your New Knowledge?" with John D. West, DDS, MSD

1:30 pm – 5:00 pm

This final presentation is designed to teach you the information and skills you need to know to effectively apply your new knowledge for producing positive and productive endodontic results. You have learned what to do, how to do it and why you should do it. Implementation will make the difference. Implementation will be the choice between an interesting two days of lectures or a true transformation of your quality and personal enjoyment of future endodontic treatments. Implementation is the next step in your education. Now it's time to get started.

This presentation will teach you how to:

  • Identify the barriers of implementing these new techniques, technologies, and thinking
  • Determine the value of implementing mastery level endodontics
  • Produce desired and sustainable technical outcomes
  • Manage energy to increase endodontic efficiency
  • Strengthen the relationship between doing endo and having fun doing endo!
