I am interested in the prevention and treatment of periodontal diseases. My research pursuits include testing of dental products such as plaque control devices and oral chemotherapy.
In earlier research projects I have investigated the use of cyclosporine for the treatment of oral erosive lichen planus, powered toothbrush effectiveness on plaque reduction and gingival bleeding, a new manual toothbrush on plaque removal and the effects of nutritional supplementation on periodontal disease.
Currently, along with Dr. Joseph Zingale, I am investigating the outcome of periodontal debridement and surgery with and without a time-release antimicrobial (minocycline) on periodontal disease. We anticipate future clinical studies that will involve the diode laser in conjunction with periodontal debridement in the treatment of periodontitis.
