Dental Hygiene Admissions Requirements

Freshman Requirements

The admission committee carefully considers each applicant's scholastic record, standardized test scores, essay and letters of recommendation. We also consider personal attributes and qualities, as well as the individual's demonstrated understanding of what a career in the dental profession entails.

For freshman applicants with less than 15 units of college credit, we require:

  • A completed undergraduate application
  • SAT or ACT exam scores
  • A competitive high school GPA (applicants who have been admitted generally have a 3.0-4.0 GPA range)
  • An essay
  • One academic recommendation
  • Successful completion of three years of lab science (physics is recommended)
  • An interview (by invitation only for competitive applicants)

Application Deadline

November 15 for entry into the program the following fall.

Transfer Requirements

Students with at least 63 semester or 94 quarter college units who have completed or are currently completing the program prerequisites will be considered for transfer admission into the program each spring semester.

Students will be required, upon admission to the dental hygiene program, to proceed through successive semesters without lapse, meet all prerequisite requirements and maintain an acceptable grade point average.

For students who have attended a two- or four-year postsecondary institution, we require:

  • A completed undergraduate application
  • A competitive college GPA
  • An essay
  • One academic recommendation
  • An interview (by invitation only for competitive applicants)

Transfer Students' Application Deadline

September 1 for entry into the program the following spring

Health Requirements

Prior to entry into the professional portion of the program (the final four semesters), several health requirements must be met and documentation submitted to the Cowell Wellness Center on the University of the Pacific's main campus, including:

• A medical examination
• Up-to-date documentation on vaccinations or other proof of immunity against measles, rubella (German measles), mumps, and Hepatitis B
• A negative tuberculosis test
